Oh lordy...what a day it has been! When it rains, it pours, as they say. And actually, now that I mention it, it did rain today, quite a lot (a rare occurrence here).
So the day started normally enough, until it was time for me to leave my little cocoon of a room and go somewheres...and the car I was using wouldn't start. Ack! Hurriedly I managed to borrow a friend's car, and then I couldn't open the door ~ happened to be one of those hold-your-tongue-just-so kind of locks. As I was leaving the parking garage, I couldn't find my friend's little doo-hickey opener-thingy that lifts the gate. I held up traffic whilst I called her. Finally out on the road, the day continued on rather normally, if a bit rushed, and I was very proud of myself for driving solo into Seoul without getting lost. The freeways here remind me of a pile of spaghetti...always twisting over one another, splitting, and going back on themselves.
Day ends, night begins. Yours truly tries to drive home. Yours truly did not write good directions last time she was out. Yours truly begins thinking thoughts such as, "Hmmmm....was that the split I meant...or was that it...hmm." She squints at the paper, then through the black, rainy windshield, then at the signs. The Hmmm's begin to turn into Ummm's and Uhhh's then to Nooo's. Then words get added: "Uh, I don't think so....." and, "This doesn't look familiar," and finally, "What the - 'Airport arrivals/departures?!'"
I guess an airport is a good place at which to get lost...I found a line of about 100 taxis, and thanked my lucky stars for the sweetest little old driver who took pity on a poor, bewildered waeguk-in (foreigner) and agreed to lead her home. All's well that ends well...and I got home only an hour later than I was supposed to. Yay hooray! :D Time for some tea, don't you think?
